Destination weddings do not need to be held in another country
It turns out that millennial couples have a much more comprehensive interpretation when it comes to the question "what is a destination wedding?". Sure, destination weddings can take place in a foreign nation, but far more take place right here in the U.S. According to the WeddingWire survey, nearly 1 in 4 couples consider their wedding to be a kind of destination wedding, but just 13 percent stated it occurred abroad. 43 percent of those who defined their wedding as a destination wedding got wed in a different state, not a various country. And just one-third of couples hosting a destination wedding needed to fly to get there. So really, a wedding doesn't need a four-hour flight and a passport to be a destination event (though 80 percent of couples stated their guests did need to travel and remain overnight to attend their wedding day)-- in fact, few do.
Tropical destination weddings remain in the minority
Okay, so a destination wedding doesn't require an insane amount of travel, however a lot of destination weddings take place on the beach? Just 22 percent of couples host their destination wedding in what's thought about a tropical destination.
Couples pick an area that's special to them
According to the WeddingWire survey, 53 percent of couples selected their wedding destination since it's significant to them. And half of couples in the study picked to have a destination wedding due to the fact that it's an unique experience.
Couples hosting a destination wedding have a longer engagement

Among the main reasons couples select a destination wedding location is because of its fantastic surroundings-- and they desire their visitors to really see and experience it! This is most likely why more destination wedding occur throughout the day. 62 percent of couples host their destination wedding ceremonies in the daytime, as opposed to 54 percent of couples weding in their home towns. A daytime wedding also enables a longer event, as the vacation-like setting puts couples and their visitors in a partying state of mind. And another interesting reality-- couples hosting a destination wedding are less likely to hold their ceremony in a holy place (just 12 percent do, as opposed to a quarter of those hosting a home town occasion), meaning they're probably selecting outside event settings to fully accept their wedding area.
Couples hosting a destination wedding are more likely to employ a wedding coordinator
Those preparing a wedding from a range most likely require additional resources a little (or a great deal of) additional aid. Ends up that 36 percent of couples hosting a destination wedding hire a planner, and typically a full-service one at that. Less than a quarter of couples hosting hometown weddings hire a wedding coordinator, and usually they're employing a day-of organizer. Clearly, couples hosting destination weddings see the long list of benefits of employing a coordinator, whether it be one who is based in their wedding location (our recommendation) or a pro from their home base.
